In What Order Should You Read the Shadowhunter Chronicles?
These are really popular and well known series, and they're, the 'Shadowhunter Chronicles'.
What are the 'Shadowhunter Chronicles'?
They are a collection of series written by the author 'Cassandra Clare', the chronicles contain 3 series and a 4th one is still yet ought to be released.
The Series are:
-The Mortal Instruments
-The Infernal Devices
-The Dark Artififces
And a fourth one that yet ought to be released:
-The Last Hours
Definition of the word 'Shadowhunter': Shadowhunters, also known as Nephilim, are a secretive race of beings who are humans born with angel blood.
Now, a brief preview of each series:
The Mortal Instruments:
This a ridiculously popular series in the book world. It is also the first series, 'Cassandra Clare' has ever written.
This series contains 6 books. It is a complete series, meaning that all the books were published and none will be added to this particular series. So I suggest you buy all the books and binge read them on a weekend or vacation.
This series is very humorous. Most of the characters are just hilarious! Though it can have its dark parts.
It is about a girl named 'Clary Fray'. She lives with her mother and her father died when she was a little girl. Until one night she witnesses, a group of hooded people with strange tattoos wanting to slaughter of what appears to her to be a person. Turns out she's the only one who can see them. But how can she?
Books:
1. City of Bones
2. City of Ashes
3. City of Glass
4. City of Fallen Angels
5. City of Lost Souls
6. City of Heavenly Fire
To find out more:
The Infernal Devices:
This series is a trilogy that contains 3 books. This is also a completed series (trilogy). It is said that this series is ever better than 'The Mortal Instruments' series. Giving that this is some of 'Cassandra Clare's' later works, her writing has developed in this series.
This trilogy takes place in London. As 'Tessa' descends into the dark supernatural underworld in search of her missing brother. Her only allies are two demon-slaying Shadowhunters called, 'Will' and 'Jem'.
Books:
1. Clockwork Angel
2. Clockwork Prince
3. Clockwork Princess
To find out more:
The Dark Artifices:
This series is a trilogy that contains 3 books. This is 'not' a completed series (trilogy). The first two books are out and the third is coming out this year on December 4. This is a spin-off series of 'The Mortal Instruments' series. It follows our two new main characters, 'Emma Carstiars' and 'Julian Blackthorn'.
Now, because this is a spin-off series I can't say that much about it because of 'spoilers'.
I suggest you not preview it until you're done with the last two series.
Books:
1.Lady Midnight
2. Lord of Shadows
3. Queen of Air and Darkness (not released yet)

How to Read the 'Shadowhunter Chronicles':
I suggest you read it in Publication order. Don't do my mistake. You see, I read the whole 'Mortal Instruments' series the first, and the last book spoiled the 'Infernal Devices' love triangle for me. You see the author kind of intertwines both series in the last two books, but the last book 'really' spoiled the triangle for me, it was literally the first 50 pages of 'City of Heavenly Fire' that spoiled it for me. In other words, 'the Prologue'!
So here is the list that I suggest you read from that order:
1. City of Bones Release Date: March 27, 2007
2. City of Ashes Release Date: March 25, 2008
3. City of Glass Release Date: March 24, 2009
'The Mortal Instruments" series was meant to be a trilogy at first. Then she wrote 'Clockwork Angel' from the "Infernal Devices' series, then deiced she was going to continue on with the 'Mortal Instruments'.
4. Clockwork Angel Release Date: August 31, 2010
5. City of Fallen Angels Release Date: April 5, 2011
6. Clockwork Prince Release Date: December 6, 2011
7. City of Lost Souls Release Date: May 8, 2012
8. Clockwork Princess Release Date: March 19, 2013
9. City of Heavenly Fire Release Date: May 27, 2014
Before you get on with the 'Dark Artifices' it is recommended that you read the novellas before them, it will really help your reading experience and add up to your information.
10. The Shadowhunter's Codex Release Date: October 29 2013
11. The Bane Chronicles Release Date: November 11, 2014
12. Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy Release Date: November 18, 2016
Then you should read the ' Dark Artifices' series after you read both series. Because if you don't you will get spoiled for these past two series.
13. Lady Midnight Release Date: March 8, 2016
14. Lord of Shadows Release Date: May 23, 2017
